About Bentley motorhomes
Bentley Motorhomes was a British coachbuilt manufacturer based in Mexborough, South Yorkshire, founded in 2010 by Autocruise founder Gordon Bentley, his son Richard, and former Autocruise chairman John Cockburn, after Swift's acquisition of Autocruise. It has no connection to Bentley Motors, the Crewe-based luxury car maker, which has never built a motorhome. The Bentley range launched in 2010 with the narrow-bodied Artisan low-profile coachbuilts on the Renault Trafic, at 1.98m wide and around 6.1m long. The Signature range followed at the 2011 NEC show, built on the Renault Master AL-KO chassis in more conventional coachbuilt sizes, with models including the Cerise, Amber, Oulton and Mallory. Bentley took first and second place in two coachbuilt categories at the 2012 Caravan Club Owner Satisfaction Awards before falling sales forced the company into liquidation in 2013, with the name and tooling acquired by Vanmaster. Used Bentley coachbuilts still come up on the UK market and tend to be valued for their British construction and in-house joinery. Any private listing tagged Bentley almost always refers to one of these Mexborough-built coachbuilts rather than to a car-based one-off.
Frequently asked questions about Bentley motorhomes
Does Bentley Motors make a motorhome?
No. Bentley Motors, the Crewe-based luxury car manufacturer, has never produced a motorhome. UK listings under Bentley refer to Bentley Motorhomes, a separate Yorkshire coachbuilder founded in 2010 by the family behind Autocruise, which built the Artisan and Signature coachbuilt ranges on Renault chassis.
Is Bentley Motorhomes still trading?
No. Bentley Motorhomes ceased trading in 2013 after falling sales, with 26 staff at the Mexborough factory losing their jobs. The brand, designs and production tooling were acquired by Vanmaster, but no new Bentley motorhomes have been built since. All current UK Bentley sales are second-hand vehicles from the 2010 to 2013 production run.
What chassis do Bentley motorhomes use?
The narrow-bodied Artisan low-profile range was built on the Renault Trafic at around 6.1 metres long and 1.98 metres wide. The larger Signature range, including the Cerise, Amber, Oulton and Mallory, was built on the Renault Master with the AL-KO chassis extension.
