About Carthago motorhomes
Carthago is a German manufacturer based in Aulendorf, Baden-Württemberg, founded by Karl-Heinz Schuler in 1979 and still independent of the major groups. The brand sits firmly in the premium and luxury tier - no campervans, no overcab family layouts, just A-class and semi-integrated coachbuilts with double floors, lined storage bays and aviation-style construction. The Compactline is the entry semi-integrated, the C-Tourer a low-profile, and the C-Line is the volume A-class. Above that sits the Chic E-Line, the Highliner tag-axle A-class and the Liner-for-Two - a 4.5-7.5t two-berth flagship with separate sleeping, lounge, kitchen and washroom "rooms". Chassis options span the Fiat Ducato AL-KO, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter AL-KO and the Iveco Daily for the heavier liner-class models, often with 180-210hp engines and 8-speed automatic boxes. Carthago offers a 10-year body-ingress warranty, and UK list prices typically start around £120,000 for a Compactline and run beyond £200,000 fully optioned for a Liner-for-Two. The main UK dealer is Chelston Motorhomes in Wellington, Somerset.
Frequently asked questions about Carthago motorhomes
Why are Carthago motorhomes so expensive?
Carthago sits at the premium end of the German A-class market, with double-floor construction, large insulated storage holds, heavier chassis options (often Mercedes Sprinter or Iveco Daily) and a 10-year body-ingress warranty as standard. Build complexity and the use of higher-payload chassis pushes UK list prices well above mainstream coachbuilts.
What is the Carthago Liner-for-Two?
The Liner-for-Two is Carthago's flagship A-class, designed around two people with a four-room layout - separate bedroom, full washroom, galley and rear lounge. It runs on the Iveco Daily chassis with gross weights between 4.5 and 7.5 tonnes and lengths up to around 8.5m.
What chassis does a Carthago use?
Most Carthago A-classes are built on the Fiat Ducato AL-KO chassis. The Chic C-Line and Chic E-Line are also offered on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter AL-KO, and the Highliner and Liner-for-Two use the heavier Iveco Daily for higher payload and tag-axle configurations.
