About Laika motorhomes

Laika Caravans is one of Italy's most respected motorhome makers, founded in 1964 in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, Tuscany, by Giovambattista Moscardini and named after the Soviet space dog, which is still echoed in the winged greyhound logo. The company joined the German Erwin Hymer Group in 2000 (now itself owned by Thor Industries) and in 2016 moved into a new factory at San Casciano in Val di Pesa, just south of Florence. The current line-up is built around three families: the Ecovip, launched in 1992 and Laika's longest-running range, available as low-profile and integrated A-class coachbuilts; the Kreos, introduced in 1999 as the premium A-class and low-profile flagship, with the Kreos L 5009 MB notably now offered on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 417 chassis with the 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox as well as the standard Fiat Ducato AL-KO double-floor platform; and the Kosmo campervan range introduced in 2018 on the Fiat Ducato, including the more recent Kosmo A-class. Build sits at the premium end of the European market, with double-floor construction on the coachbuilts, ALDE wet central heating on most layouts and a strong design-led Italian interior look. In the UK Laika is left-hand drive only and sold through a small specialist network including Travelworld at Stafford.

Frequently asked questions about Laika motorhomes

Where are Laika motorhomes made?

Laika has been based in the Val di Pesa area of Tuscany since 1964 and has built motorhomes at a modern factory in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, near Florence, since 2016. The company has been part of the German Erwin Hymer Group since 2000.

Are Laika motorhomes available in right-hand drive?

No. Laika builds in Italy for the European market and the Ecovip, Kreos and Kosmo ranges are all left-hand drive only. UK buyers purchase through specialist importers such as Travelworld Motorhomes in Stafford or buy used.

What is the difference between the Laika Kreos and the Ecovip?

The Kreos is Laika's premium range, with the deepest double floor, more standard equipment and the option of a Mercedes Sprinter chassis on the L 5009 MB. The Ecovip sits below it as the core mid-range, still on Fiat Ducato AL-KO with double-floor construction, but with a simpler spec and a wider choice of layouts and prices.
