About Lunar motorhomes
Lunar was a long-standing British leisure-vehicle manufacturer based in Lostock Hall, Preston, established in 1969 and named after the Apollo moon landings. Caravans were the company's core product; motorhomes were added later and split into two strands - UK-built coachbuilts like the Premier and Vacanza on the Fiat Ducato and Peugeot Boxer, and rebadged imports such as the Champ and Home-Car, sourced from the Lommel factory in Belgium. The brand had a loyal following in the mid-market, particularly for the Vacanza low-profile range and the Premier higher-spec coachbuilts. Lunar entered administration in July 2019 after cash-flow issues, ceasing production and losing around 120 jobs. The trade and assets were acquired by an overseas engineering company and roughly 60 staff transferred, but motorhome production did not resume - Lunar is effectively a defunct motorhome brand. There are no new Lunar motorhomes; everything on the UK market today is used stock, and prices have held up reasonably given parts and warranty support is now via independent specialists rather than the original factory.
Frequently asked questions about Lunar motorhomes
Is Lunar still trading?
No. Lunar entered administration in July 2019 and ceased motorhome and caravan production at its Preston factory. The trade and assets were bought by an overseas engineering firm, but the Lunar motorhome line was not restarted, so all UK stock is used.
Where were Lunar motorhomes built?
UK-built ranges like the Vacanza and Premier were produced at Lunar's Lostock Hall factory in Preston. Imported models - most notably the Champ and Home-Car - were built in Belgium at the Lommel plant and rebadged for the UK market.
Can you still get parts and servicing for a Lunar motorhome?
Yes, but not from the original manufacturer. Most servicing and spares are handled by independent motorhome workshops; chassis parts come through the Fiat Ducato / Peugeot Boxer network, and habitation items are typically generic (Truma, Thetford, Whale) and still readily available.
