About Pilote motorhomes
Pilote is a French motorhome manufacturer founded in 1962 and based in La Limouzinière, near Nantes. It is family-owned and the lead brand of Groupe Pilote, which also owns Frankia, Bavaria, Le Voyageur and Mooveo. Pilote sits in the premium tier of the European market and is best known for its A-Class motorhomes, which carry the Galaxy badge. The Galaxy range (e.g. G690, G720, G740) is built on the Fiat AL-KO chassis with a panoramic A-Class front and is the brand's flagship. The Pacific range covers the low-profile coachbuilts (P690, P720, P740), and the Atlas range is the more compact entry tier. Pilote launches an annual "Selection" limited edition with extra kit and unique trim each model year. Most Pilotes are Fiat Ducato-based, although a smaller line of narrower 2.2m-wide low-profiles is built on the Ford Transit. UK-spec right-hand drive is available on selected Pacific and Atlas low-profiles via specialist importers. Buyers are typically experienced motorhomers looking for an A-Class with strong road manners and a higher specification level than mainstream French rivals.
Frequently asked questions about Pilote motorhomes
What chassis does Pilote use?
Pilote builds the majority of its motorhomes on the Fiat Ducato, with Galaxy A-Class models using the Fiat AL-KO variant - a lowered, widened rear chassis that improves handling and creates a low loading height. A smaller part of the Pacific and Atlas range uses the Ford Transit chassis to give a narrower 2.2m body width suited to tighter European roads.
Are Pilote motorhomes any good?
Pilote is consistently rated as a premium European brand and is generally praised for road manners, fuel economy and specification level - electronic handbrake, cruise control and electric drop-down beds are standard on much of the range. Owner reports are positive overall, with some isolated reports of window seal and minor electrical issues, so a thorough pre-purchase inspection is sensible when buying used.
Are Pilote motorhomes available in right-hand drive?
Pilote is a left-hand drive manufacturer, but selected Pacific and Atlas low-profile models are available in right-hand drive for the UK market via specialist importers. Galaxy A-Class models are LHD only. Many UK Pilote buyers opt for LHD anyway, as it suits continental touring where the brand is designed to be used.
