About Weinsberg motorhomes
Weinsberg traces its roots to Karosseriewerke Weinsberg, a coachbuilder founded in 1912 by Gustav Alt and Wilhelm Schuhmacher in the Baden-Wuerttemberg town of Weinsberg. The Weinsberg name was first used on leisure vehicles in 1969 with a Fiat 238-based camper, and in 1992 the recreation vehicle brand was sold to Tabbert, becoming part of what is now Knaus Tabbert AG, headquartered in Jandelsbrunn, Lower Bavaria. Within the group Weinsberg sits as the value brand, offering Knaus-derived engineering at lower prices. Production runs through the group's German plant at Jandelsbrunn and the high-volume Hungarian factory at Nagyoroszi near Budapest, with the caravan side built at Mottgers. The current line-up covers panel-van conversions in the CaraBus and CaraTour ranges (Fiat Ducato, with Ford Transit added from model year 2023), the CaraCompact low-profile coachbuilt on Fiat Ducato and Mercedes Sprinter, the over-cab CaraHome on Ducato, the larger CaraLoft low-profile, and the A-class CaraCore on Ducato AL-KO chassis. The CaraCompact Pepper edition is one of the best-selling motorhomes in Europe, and Weinsberg vehicles share Knaus's bonded sandwich construction and dealer network, making them a common choice for UK buyers who want a German-built coachbuilt or panel van without paying flagship money.
Frequently asked questions about Weinsberg motorhomes
Are Weinsberg motorhomes any good?
Weinsberg is the value tier of the Knaus Tabbert group and shares much of its engineering, chassis and build process with sister brands Knaus and Tabbert. They are German-built using bonded sandwich construction and the CaraCompact Pepper edition is one of the best-selling motorhomes in Europe, which gives a reasonable indication of how the range is regarded in mainland Europe.
Where are Weinsberg motorhomes built?
Weinsberg motorhomes are produced in the Knaus Tabbert factories at Jandelsbrunn in Lower Bavaria and at Nagyoroszi in Hungary. The Weinsberg caravan side is built at the group's Mottgers plant in Germany. The company itself takes its name from the town of Weinsberg in Baden-Wuerttemberg where the original Karosseriewerke Weinsberg coachbuilder was founded in 1912.
What chassis do Weinsberg motorhomes use?
The CaraBus and CaraTour panel vans, the CaraHome over-cab, the CaraLoft low-profile and the CaraCore A-class are built on the Fiat Ducato. The CaraCompact low-profile is offered on both Fiat Ducato and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and from model year 2023 the CaraBus and CaraTour also became available on the Ford Transit. A-class CaraCore models sit on the Fiat Ducato AL-KO low-frame chassis.
