Weinsberg traces its roots to Karosseriewerke Weinsberg, a coachbuilder founded in 1912 by Gustav Alt and Wilhelm Schuhmacher in the Baden-Wuerttemberg town of Weinsberg. The Weinsberg name was first used on leisure vehicles in 1969 with a Fiat 238-based camper, and in 1992 the recreation vehicle brand was sold to Tabbert, becoming part of what is now Knaus Tabbert AG, headquartered in Jandelsbrunn, Lower Bavaria. Within the group Weinsberg sits as the value brand, offering Knaus-derived engineering at lower prices. Production runs through the group's German plant at Jandelsbrunn and the high-volume Hungarian factory at Nagyoroszi near Budapest, with the caravan side built at Mottgers. The current line-up covers panel-van conversions in the CaraBus and CaraTour ranges (Fiat Ducato, with Ford Transit added from model year 2023), the CaraCompact low-profile coachbuilt on Fiat Ducato and Mercedes Sprinter, the over-cab CaraHome on Ducato, the larger CaraLoft low-profile, and the A-class CaraCore on Ducato AL-KO chassis. The CaraCompact Pepper edition is one of the best-selling motorhomes in Europe, and Weinsberg vehicles share Knaus's bonded sandwich construction and dealer network, making them a common choice for UK buyers who want a German-built coachbuilt or panel van without paying flagship money.
