About IH Motorhomes motorhomes
IH Motorhomes is one of the longest-established premium panel-van converters in the UK, founded in 1992 by Ian Hartley, a cabinet and pattern maker by trade. The business started in a small lock-up in Castleford before moving to its current NCC-approved factory and showroom on Great North Road, Knottingley, West Yorkshire in 2005. The range is built across three chassis families: the Fiat Ducato (600 and 630 models such as the 630 RL-RD and 630 Twin), the VW Crafter (the 680 family, including the 680 CFL and 680 CRL/RD that arrived with the new-shape Crafter in 2018) and the Iveco Daily (the 710 IFL range). The N-Class, introduced in 2013, replaces the standard sliding door with a coachbuilt-style side entrance module to gain a wider habitation door and more usable kitchen and washroom space, and IH was also one of the first converters to popularise fixed rear panel-van layouts back in 2003. Build is hand-finished, with cabinetry that owes more to high-end yacht interiors than to mass-market factory vans, and most layouts are sold to settled UK couples looking for a high-spec right-hand drive van conversion they can keep long-term. IH sells direct from Knottingley as well as through the used market.
Frequently asked questions about IH Motorhomes motorhomes
Where are IH Motorhomes built?
IH Motorhomes are built in Knottingley, West Yorkshire, at the company's factory on Great North Road. The business was founded in 1992 by Ian Hartley and moved to the current Knottingley site in 2005, where every conversion is hand-finished in-house.
What base vehicles do IH Motorhomes use?
IH builds on three chassis: the Fiat Ducato (600 and 630 model numbers), the VW Crafter (680 model numbers, including the N-Class with its coachbuilt-style side entrance), and the Iveco Daily (710 IFL). All are factory right-hand drive and most layouts can be specified with an automatic gearbox.
Are IH Motorhomes good quality?
IH is regarded as one of the top tier of British panel van converters, sitting alongside names like Auto-Sleepers and Wellhouse in the premium bracket. The cabinetry is hand-built with solid timber edging and yacht-style detailing, and the company holds an NCC Approved Workshop certificate. They sit at the expensive end of the panel-van market but tend to hold their values well.
