About Rapido motorhomes
Rapido is a French motorhome manufacturer founded in 1961 and based in Mayenne, north-west France. It is the lead brand of Groupe Rapido, which also owns Itineo, Dreamer and Fleurette. Rapido sits firmly in the premium tier of the European market and is best known for double-floor construction - a heated, insulated belly that provides frost-protected storage and ducted heating runs - across both its low-profile (Series 6F, 8F) and A-Class (Distinction, 800-series) ranges. UK-popular models include the C-series compact low-profiles (C55, C66, C86) aimed at couples wanting sub-7m length, the larger 6F and 8F coachbuilts with rear island beds, and the integrated 8DF / 850F / 866F A-Class models. All are built on the Fiat Ducato chassis, typically with the 2.2 MultiJet engine and 9-speed automatic. Rapido motorhomes are factory left-hand drive only - Rapido does not produce a right-hand drive version. Buyers are typically experienced motorhomers who want premium European touring kit, ALDE or Truma Combi heating, and strong winter use.
Frequently asked questions about Rapido motorhomes
Are Rapido motorhomes left-hand drive?
Yes - Rapido motorhomes are built in France and supplied as left-hand drive only. There is no factory right-hand drive option. Many UK owners actively prefer LHD for continental touring, where it puts the driver on the kerb side for tolls and overtaking, but it's a key thing to test-drive before buying if you'll be using the van primarily in the UK.
Are Rapido motorhomes any good?
Rapido is consistently rated as one of the top three premium European brands alongside Hymer and Niesmann+Bischoff. They score in the mid-80s on Caravan Club build-quality reviews, are praised for their double-floor construction and ALDE heating, and hold residual value well. Owner reports are largely positive, with only minor niggles around interior trim hardware.
What chassis do Rapido motorhomes use?
Rapido builds almost exclusively on the Fiat Ducato chassis, typically with the 2.2-litre MultiJet 3 diesel engine in 140, 160 or 180 bhp tune, often paired with the 9-speed automatic gearbox. A-Class models use the Fiat AL-KO chassis for the lowered, widened rear section that improves handling and creates the double-floor space.
