Two years ago, I had a serious motorcycle accident. I went to overtake a van, the van decided to do a U-turn, and I couldn't have hit it more square on the back, if I'd tried. Died, brought back, two months in hospital, and in eight weeks, something like that, it's two years since it happened, and the journey has been horrendous. People have said to me, get her back on the bike, get her, I don't want to get back on the bike, so what have I done?
I've recovered, I've survived, and I've bought a camper van. Why have I bought a camper van? To replace the thrill of having a motorbike and going places. Now let me tell you, let me tell you, it fails with great magnificence to be knack all like a motorbike, but it is more comfortable, the seat's more comfortable, when it rains I don't get wet, when it's sunny I don't get hot, when it's windy I don't have to lean into the wind.
So the camper does have some positive aspects, and I've been to Spain and back, 3,100 miles there and back, 360 pounds with French toll roads, but I have to say the roads were mint. So the camper van, Volkswagen crafter, kit it out. Internally, the bed, so this is the bed, new mattress, new mattress topper, new pillows, nice and comfy, couple of reading lamps, in case somebody wants to join me, well yeah, I guess I only need one then, but it has everything that you need, it's not luxurious, I nearly bought a motorhome but that's just going over the top and the price of motorhomes is stupid. But now it's comfy, everything feels right, and that is all that matters to me, if it makes me happy, happy days.
The bed is above me here, and it comes down as you can see, it's held up with a lump of wood, tell you man, what can be achieved is unbelievable when you set your mind to it. So the reason for that is, when I bought it there was a skinny, horrible, thin, knacker old bloody mattress on it, and I've got gas struts in the corners, and the bed would hold up, I've improved the mattress, I've put a mattress topper on, and the weight of it, the gas struts aren't strong enough, hence, a lap oil, to hold it up. It's got everything I need, except the thrill that I used to achieve, if I'm going to go and see what campervanning is all about. A mountain is a mountain, a river is a river, a stream is a stream, a lake is a lake, a beach is a beach, a sunrise is not always a sunrise, and a sunset is not always a sunset, but I think you understand where I'm coming from.
I'm going to give you warts and all, about me, about campervanning, and just see where we get to. I'm still here, although that might upset one or two people, and I'm just going to do what I do, stop, and see what happens.
