Questions & Answers
Buyer Rob Hughes asked about damp/damage and marks/scratches, and wants to avoid a wasted journey.
The owner says there's no damage and the motorhome is in excellent condition. The most recent habitation check found a small damp reading around an air vent near the boiler. It was confined to the area around the vent, and the owner thinks it's most likely just damp air from the van standing. The owner is away on business at the moment but can do a viewing this coming weekend.
Buyer Rob (viewing Sat 10 Oct 2pm, £40k offer accepted) texted on 5 Oct. We gave him the reg VX18 VBR from the listing, and he says DVLA has no record of it and asked whether it's on a private plate. We need the owner to confirm the current registration.
The owner has confirmed the correct registration is VX18 BVR. The advert had it as VX18 VBR, with the last three letters in the wrong order, which is why it wasn't coming up on the DVLA site.
Buyer Rob (accepted offer £40,000, viewing Sat 10 Oct 14:00) SMS'd on 5 Oct at 14:43 after running a DVLA check on VX18 BVR. He says it shows at least 2 tyres need replacing, and he asked what assurances there are on condition and roadworthiness because he plans to drive it home. The seller-provided details list the tyres as "Good (plenty of tread)".
The owner says all the tyres are in good condition. The rear tyres were noted as advisories on the last MOT, to be changed at some point because they're perished, but the owner says they're perfectly OK to drive.
Buyer Rob (accepted offer £40,000, viewing Sat 10 Oct 2pm) replied by SMS on 5 Oct 14:54 after we relayed the owner's tyre answer and the 1pm finance cut-off. MOT 30 Apr 2026 advisories list nearside and offside front tyres worn close to the legal limit. Owner had said the rears were the advisories. Buyer is now hesitant to travel.
The owner says all four tyres are absolutely fine, and the motorhome only recently passed its MOT. On timing for Saturday: if there isn't time to complete before the finance company's office closes at 1pm, the owner has suggested two options. You could wait until Monday, when the finance office is open again, or you could pay the owner and he would then make the payment to the finance company, if you're comfortable with that.
Buyer Rob (accepted offer £40,000, viewing Sat 10 Oct 14:00) texted 5 Oct 15:13 asking for pictures of the tyres, citing MOT 30 Apr 2026 front tyre advisories and ~1,000 miles since. Owner previously said all four tyres are fine. Owner is away on business, so photos may take a while.
The owner is happy to send photos of the tyres. He's away in Spain on business until Friday afternoon, so he's going to ask his son to take photos of all four tyres in the meantime, and hopes to send them later today.
Buyer Rob asked by SMS on 5 Oct for the date of the last habitation check (answered: 4 Aug 2026), then replied "Yes please" when offered a copy of the certificate. Owner Dominic is away in Spain until Friday.
The owner has sent us a copy of the habitation check certificate from 4 August 2026. The inspector thought the damp reading was most likely water left over after an inline plastic water filter cracked, around the air vent where it would have drained out, and expected it to dry out.
Buyer Rob Hughes texted on 5 Oct, 16:49. He asked for a copy of the habitation certificate and whether it mentioned slight damp at the heating flue exit. Owner said earlier that the check found a small damp reading around an air vent near the boiler. Buyer's £40k offer has been accepted. The Sat 10 Oct viewing is off and Monday is being considered.
The owner has sent us a copy of the habitation check certificate from 4 August 2026. On the damp reading, he says the inspector thought it was most likely water left over after an inline plastic water filter cracked, and expected it to dry out. The damp is around the air vent, which is where that water would naturally have drained out.
Buyer Rob SMS 6 Oct 09:16, after withdrawing at 09:04 over HPI showing HP with Paragon Bank: asked us to find out the outstanding finance amount; says he 'could' proceed with payment to the bank first, rest to seller. Has a reserve purchase of the same model elsewhere. A high-priority task is already open for a colleague to call Rob about how the finance gets settled at completion. I have not confirmed any payment mechanics to the buyer.
The owner has sent us a copy of the finance agreement showing the amount outstanding. He plans to clear it at completion like this: you would pay the outstanding amount straight to the finance company (Paragon), and he'll wait with you until the finance company confirms it has received the payment and released the motorhome from the agreement. He says this is why he asked you to arrive before midday on Saturday, so there was time to settle it before their office closed. It's also why he offered to bring the motorhome to you on Monday, when the finance office is open.
Buyer Rob emailed 6 Oct 17:14 in reply to the owner's "where do you stand" question. He wants until Friday 9 Oct to decide. He's concerned about how far the damp from the cracked inline filter (Aug 2026 hab check) extends. The owner asked for news at 12:46, so this also answers him.
The owner says the damp from the cracked filter has only affected a very small, isolated area, roughly 3 square inches, as noted on the habitation report. He has checked that area regularly since and there's no sign of water getting in or of the damp spreading. He also points out that the habitation technician who carried out the check didn't flag it as an area of concern on the report.

Seller's ID verified by Motorhome PigA quick honest note
Because you're buying directly from the owner, the condition of the motorhome is yours to judge on the day - and that's a good thing (it's why there's no dealer markup). We verify ownership and run an HPI check; the motorhome's condition is the one thing best judged in person. We'll give you a checklist so you can view like a pro and satisfy yourself everything's spot-on before you buy.
Our checks cover the seller and the registers, not the vehicle itself, and they rely on data supplied to us by third parties, so we can't accept responsibility for errors or omissions in it. However thorough our checks are, please arrange your own independent inspection and your own history check before you commit to buying.
