1989 Swift Kon-Tiki 2.0L – 1989 – F776 TPO

Manual | 2.0L Petrol | Iconic Retro Coachbuilt | 4-Berth | 2 Seatbelts Mileage: 55,000

Condition: Classic Character – "Kon-Tiki" Heritage – Ready for the Retro Enthusiast

Motorhomepig is delighted to offer this 1989 Talbot Express Swift Kon-Tiki. As the flagship of the Swift range in the late 80s, the Kon-Tiki was built to a standard that has allowed many to become cherished classics. This particular example shows a remarkably low 55,000 miles and retains the quintessential "British Motorhome" charm that made this model an icon.

The Classic Kon-Tiki Layout:

  • Sleeping for 4: Designed with the traditional family layout. It features a spacious Over-Cab Double Bed and a central dinette area that converts into a second comfortable double bed.

  • Rear Utility Zone: Uniquely designed with the kitchen and toilet located at the rear, providing a clear separation between the living/sleeping area and the utility facilities.

  • Open Living: The forward-facing lounge/dining area creates a social heart to the van, perfect for evening meals or relaxing after a day’s drive.

  • Retro Driving: Based on the robust Talbot Express chassis with a Manual gearbox and RHD configuration, offering a nostalgic and mechanical driving experience.

Extras & Utilities Included:

This Kon-Tiki is supplied with the essentials needed to get you straight onto the pitch:

  • Towing Capability: Equipped with a Trailer, providing extra storage for longer trips or bulky hobby gear.

  • Full Setup: Includes all necessary leads and connections to get your power and systems running immediately.

  • Security: Supplied with 2 sets of keys.

Maintenance & Technical Specs:

  • Exceptional Mileage: Just 54,000 miles covered in 37 years—this vehicle has been used sparingly and kept as a pride and joy.

  • Documented History: While the service book lacks recent stamps, the van comes with a significant amount of paperwork and receipts documenting the care it has received over the years.

  • MOT Status: The vehicle is currently covered by an MOT valid until August 2026, giving you a full season of adventure ahead.

  • Financial Integrity: Confirmed HPI clear with no outstanding finance.

Broker's Note:

The Swift Kon-Tiki is a true survivor. In an era of modern, plastic-heavy campers, this 1989 classic stands out with its solid build and unmistakable silhouette. At 55,000 miles, it’s a rare find for a collector or a first-time buyer looking for a vintage entry point into motorhoming. It’s an honest, characterful van that’s ready to make new memories.

We offer part exchange of any vehicle type including cars, motorhomes, motorbikes, or any asset of value. Warranty options from 3 to 36 months are available (subject to terms and conditions).

Walk-around videos are available upon request. Motorhomepig are proud to offer this as a broker available to view in Leicester.

Questions & Answers

Q

Buyer is asking about damp/damage history, any marks or scratches on the bodywork, and whether the price is negotiable.

A

1) Damp/damage: There was damp in the bathroom area, but the seller stripped it all back, installed new membrane, new boards, and sealed it all up. No other damp issues. 2) Marks/scratches: There are age-related marks on the sides and bumper — no rust though. The seller has everything needed to fix these cosmetic marks, which will come with the motorhome on purchase. 3) Price: The price is negotiable down to £6,000, but at that price the trailer would not be included. The sale also includes an aqua roll, wastemaster, and plenty of other extras.

Q

Buyer has asked about tyre condition, and the seller details only say "Fair (some wear)". Buyer also asked about service history, living area, bathroom, bedroom, dashboard, control panel, and exterior details. I need more specifics on tyre condition.

A

The tyres will need replacing for the next MOT. They are in fair condition with some wear but won't pass another MOT without being replaced.

Q

Buyer Steve is asking whether the engine is solid/reliable and whether the roof is solid (no leaks, damage, or structural issues).

A

Engine is solid — starts first time every time with no known issues. Has had a lot of new parts fitted to the engine. Roof is fine with no leaking or known issues. The seller hasn't personally been up on top to inspect but has owned it for 3 years with no problems.

Q

Buyer has asked what the body/shell of the Kon-Tiki is made of (e.g. aluminium skin, GRP, fibreglass, timber frame etc.)

A

The seller isn't sure what the body construction materials are. As a 1989 Swift Kon-Tiki on a Talbot Express chassis, these were typically built with a timber frame, aluminium outer skin, and GRP (fibreglass) panels, but the seller can't confirm the exact spec. A viewing would be the best way to check.
